I will start off by saying that I am still a beginner with baitcasters. I am not a master by any means. That being said, I bought this after I had already owned an Abu Garcia SilverMax. Night and day difference. This reel is far superior, and it’s not even close. Super smooth. I’ve used it for everything from Texas rigs to chatterbaits. People can hate on using older reels all they want, but I’ll stand by them, especially since it’s from Lews. Only thing I will say, is that there isn’t anywhere to tie the line into on the bare spool. My Abu reel had holes in the spool to tie onto, unlike this one. Didn’t bother me, I tied an arbor knot like usual, and put a small piece of tape over it. Worked just fine. No complaints otherwise. Only time I’ve bird nested is when I do something wrong, it’s never been the reels fault. Haven’t used any braid or fluo on it yet so I can’t say what works best. The 14lb mono I have on right now works great.
